What is Impasto?
Impasto, from the Italian word, refers to a painting technique
where paint is laid on an area of the surface with the use of a
pallet knife very thickly, usually thickly enough that the brush or
painting-knife strokes are visible. ‘The Impressionist’ painting
movement were very keen on Impasto, with Vincent Van Gogh,
in particular using it frequently for aesthetics and expression.
